Adding a jump seat saved them a ticket!

A customer related the following story after adding one of our jump seats.

summons.jpg

“Every once in a while, we drive as a family to Canada to visit my in-laws with the kids. This happens to be (luckily) one of the few times a year that our entire family must somehow fit into only four feet by six feet of living space.

Until this point, we had just crammed everyone in, praying that we weren’t breaking any serious laws deserving of jail time. This time however we were stopped by a border police officer looking for blood. He scowled into the van with squinting eyes. “How many do you have in there, this van only seats seven!” he barked. As providence would have it, we had just added an eighth jump seat only weeks before! We proudly showed him that everyone was buckled up in their own seat.

“You mean you added a seat just to stay legal? I’m very impressed!! he said shocked. We parted friends and we all learned a valuable lesson about saving money! (and maybe even jail time!)

  1. Hi,

I’m looking to add an eighth seat to my 2002 Grand Caravan and saw a couple of options from the other posts:

    1) Add another 3 seater third row bench to the second row – would probably be the safest since the seat belts are integrated into the seats by the manufacturer, but it would be cumbersome to crawl over the second row to access the third row . . .
    2) Add a jumper in between the captains chairs in the second row.
    3) And here’s a new one, but I don’t know if it’s an option or if it even exists, . . . add a jumper between the front row seats? (Theoretically I would have a nine seater???)

Can you point me in the right direction for option #2? And maybe #3 (if it even exists)?

    Thanks

I have a 2018 Grand Caravan with 2nd ro captains seat and I am interested in buying the jumper seat. I live in Kempner, Texas 76539 and will not be able to make the trip there to have it installed. How hard is the install and what tools are requied to complete it?

What model of minivan is easier to adapt a jump seat? I’ve been looking for buying a used minivan (Odyssey, Sienna or similar) but normally I can only find them with 7 seats.

    1. admin says:

The Toyota Sienna is definitely the easiest but most of the others can be done as well – including the Odyssey and the Town and Country

Can you send any images of the additional seat in a Sienna. I have an ’08. I would like to see how it looks, installs etc. None of the image links on the webpage seem to work for me

    1. admin says:

No pics of the Sienna specifically but the web page has been fixed so you can see what the seat looks like in a Chrysler

Will it fit in second row 2015 Mazda 5 (minivan)?

    1. admin says:

Doubtful but you can measure and see if you have at least 11.5″ between the seats.
If you do, it might work

Is this possible for a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country? How do we go about ordering the proper tools? And can a car seat be installed on it or a booster?

    1. admin says:

Yes it is possible. You need a rivet-nut-gun for a 5/16″ rivet. We use the Westward 5TUW5 which you can get anywhere online for about $100
You shouldn’t have trouble puting a booster on it since it will overlap onto the seats next to it.
