I’ve got many great replys to “why do I need a dash camera?” -but catching thieves was never one of them…until now!
It all started about 6 weeks ago – on a Friday to be exact – when I opened the center compartment in my car and saw that all the cash was gone! – $1500 of it! Now before you berate me publicly for keeping cash in my car, I usually don’t! It was cash from our cash register that needed to go to the bank and as someone who usually locks my doors, I put it in my car for a few days never suspecting what was about to happen!
After wracking my brain, trying to retrace my steps of the past few days, I suddenly realized that my dash camera was connected to record constantly! – Of course I wasn’t about to watch 3 days of video , but I downloaded the audio into Free Audacity Software allowing me to to see the audio visually. Low and behold there was a very distinguishable burst of audio a day before, just long enough for someone to be rummaging around in my car! I checked the security cameras on the building near the bays where I had left my car to unload some boxes ( in broad daylight mind you) and BINGO! along comes a car – the car stops – a guy gets out – goes into my car – helps himself to my money and drives off!
Well thanks to the Lakewood New Jersey Police Department for reading the license plate number, going to his house and arresting him!
I still don’t have the money back but I do have one more reason to sell you a dash camera!
